Signs that it May Be Time To Service/ Replace Your Hot Water Heater

Service/Fix Water Heater

Hot water heaters are an essential part of any household. However, most of us do not truly appreciate them until they are malfunctioning. As crucial as hot water heaters are to our everyday lives the overall functionality of our homes and work places, it is a must that we properly maintenance them and replace them when necessary. Here are some of the signs that your hot water heater may need repair or possible replacement;

Broken Dip Tube

-One of the reasons you could be running out of hot water is a broken dip tube. The dip tube pushes cold water to the bottom of the tank to be heated. If the dip tube damaged, the cold water is not being pushed down to be heated and entering the pipes still cold.

Check the thermostat on the tank

-The temperature should not be too low, however, it should never surpass 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If the thermostat is set to a healthy temperature and you’re still not getting enough or any hot water, it may be time to replace your water heater.

Hot water heater is 10+ years old

-Heating elements, thermostats, and/or gas valves may need to be replaced

Loud rumbling, popping or clicking noises

-This is usually the result of when sediment builds up in the tank and starts boiling with the water. At this point the hot water heater should definitely be flushed or replaced before cracking/leaking.
Another very important factor to take into consideration is making sure that your hot water heater is the correct size for your home. If you regularly run out of hot water in your home, this is a sign of depletion, which means you should consider installing a larger hot water heater, additional unit or perhaps even upgrading to a tankless water heater. If you notice any of these issues (or any that are not listed) it is best to consult a professional plumber.
